WEBSITE
DC Comics
A website built for a universe.
DC Comics
DC Comics is one of the largest and oldest American comic book companies founded in the 1930’s.
For those who don’t know DC Comics is the publishing home to some of the worlds most famous characters such as Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, The Joker, and probably the most popular super hero of all time, Superman.
Challenge
In 2015 I decided to redesign an old project that I once had the priveledge of working on back in 2013. I’m taking some liberties with this design, but staying concious of producing a buildable and practical website and CMS while sticking with the clients original business objectives.
Old Designs
Here are the original designs from 2013.
Design Approach
I wanted to focus on utilizing the beautiful assets provided by the DC library to help bring more life to the characters. I also wanted to leverage those assets to elevate the visual impact that users would come to expect from the legendary DC Comics.
Home Page Designs
A long scrolling page that acts like a launching pad for multiple topics. Each section uses large imagery to create as much impact as possible.
Status Updates
I proposed an idea that added a social media aspect to the DC characters. What if each character had their own profiles that posted updates? These updates would inform the users of everything that that character has been referenced of lately.
Character Page
I wanted to design a detail page that dives into the character a bit more. Not just giving you simple details but a page that gives you a full 360 of the character.
Search Comic Books
I applied a Netflix style layout at the top of the page to allow for the fun categories that DC likes to create, while still allowing for a more traditional search experience at the bottom.
Comic Book Detail
A simple, clean design that brings in variable, dynamic content.
Buy Now
DC Comics didn’t have an internal purchase process so they made it easy for me to push out to different vendors.
